Deadly Ferry Fire Leaves Dozens Missing in Indonesia's Java Sea The MV Sinar Bangun ferry caught fire on Sunday evening while traveling from Tanjung Priok to Ketapang Island in East Kalimantan.
The 35 meter vessel, operated by PT Bahari Express, was approximately halfway between the ports of Tanjung Priok and Ketapang when the blaze broke out around 8 pm local time.
Eyewitnesses reported seeing flames engulf one of the ship's upper decks before quickly spreading throughout the vessel. "It was like a nightmare," said a passenger who wished to remain anonymous.
